What could you and your Scout groups do to help save lives?
Throughout the month of May, we’re celebrating the lifesaving work of our lifeboat crews. They risk their own safety to rescue people around the UK and Republic of Ireland. It is our aim this year is to raise £750,000* to provide essential kit for our volunteer lifeboat crews to help them be ready for any emergency.
In 2016, RNLI lifeboats launched over 8,000 times. The lifeboat crew and lifeguards saved the lives of over 450 people and helped or rescued 30,000 more. We cannot predict how many times we will be called out, and with the demand on our service continuing to grow, planning for the future is always a challenge. That is why your support is so important to the RNLI.
Your group could be lifesavers too by holding your very own Mayday event to support our amazing volunteer lifeboat crews. Last year we had various events take place throughout May from Welly Walks & sponsored runs, to bake sales & fancy dress days, all of which supported our Mayday campaign. We would love to have you on-board this year and hear your fundraising ideas!
So if you would like your group to get involved and do your bit to fund our kit please let me know and I will be happy to send you one of our fundraising packs to get you started or if you want to further discuss your plans do get in touch on the details below.
We also have a number of youth education presenters who would love to work with your group and arrange a water safety workshop/talk, so do get in touch.
* anything raised over £750,000 will go generically to the RNL
P.S if you are unable to support through your group/club please do pass this email on to anyone who may be interested in supporting the RNLI – many thanks. Alternatively you could help us to kick-start the campaign on 25th April by sparing an hour or two to volunteer and collect with us.
